National Voter Registration Day
At the Y, we believe voting is more than a civic responsibility. It is an important way to strengthen communities and ensure every voice has an opportunity to be heard. As a nonpartisan nonprofit organization, we are committed to helping individuals and communities across the Triangle prepare for Election Day on Nov. 3, 2026.
National Voter Registration Day, observed this year on Tuesday, Sept. 15, serves as a reminder that participating in our democracy starts with being registered and informed. By voting, individuals not only exercise a fundamental right but also help shape the future of their neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and communities.
With critical midterm elections on the horizon in 2026, every vote matters. Decisions made at the local, state and federal levels affect issues that impact us all, making civic engagement more important than ever. Together, we can help build a stronger, more inclusive, and representative democracy by ensuring every eligible voter is ready to make their voice count.
Important Dates in North Carolina
- Oct. 9: Voter registration deadline*
- Oct. 15: Early in-person voting begins
- Oct. 20: Absentee ballot request deadline
- Oct. 31: Early in-person voting ends
- Nov. 3: Absentee ballots due
- Nov. 3: Election Day
* Same-day voter registration is available during in-person early voting.
